Speeding suspect causes crash near Ferndale, kills one

Michigan residents should know about a fatal car crash that occurred in Royal Oak Township near Ferndale. On the morning of Friday, February 14, 2020, a 26-year-old man fleeing from Ferndale police collided with a car at the intersection of 8 Mile Road and Wyoming Avenue in the township, injuring two occupants and killing one.

It all began when police spotted the man on 8 Mile Road going 70 mph in a 40 mph zone. When officers attempted to pull the man over, he made an appearance of pulling over before fleeing the scene. The accident occurred after a police pursuit that lasted around one minute. After the crash, the suspect tried to elude officers on foot but was arrested.

All three victims in the other car were elderly. One of them, an 89-year-old woman, died on the morning of Monday, February 17. One of the injury victims is still in the hospital, according to police. The man who caused the crash had a 26-year-old female passenger who also suffered serious injuries.

He has been charged with second-degree fleeing and eluding and is scheduled to appear in court on March 2. More charges, relating to the woman’s death, are to be added.

In such motor vehicle crashes as this, those who survive may be able to pursue a personal injury claim and seek not only compensatory damages, which cover things like medical bills, lost wages and punitive damages, which are meant to punish defendants who engage in particularly reckless conduct. The families of those who die in such accidents may pursue a wrongful death lawsuit.

Whatever the case may be, plaintiffs may want a lawyer representing them since auto insurance companies can be aggressive in denying payment. As a last resort, plaintiffs may litigate
